Highlights:

  1. Accidently broke a Christmas decoration at the Capitol Building. I was running at night, and went to overtake some people on the sidewalk. As I jumped on the grass a long piece of steel wire caught my torso, almost coathanging me, and snapped! The structure, however, remained upright. Off I ran

  2. Spent $36 so far ($25 taxi, and 2 beers. Not including phone damages!)

  3. Tested the aerodynamic abilities of my iPhone from a 10m ladder

  4. Met a girl and her dog on the beach, she took me to La Perla and a 3 hour hike at El Yunque (video to come)

  5. Attended free yoga classes

  6. Relearnt to backflip

  7. Stepped on many toes dancing the salsa (Danced with a girl from couchsurfing and another from tinder)

  8. Had a mini tour of some of the Northwestern parts with a girl from tinder

  9. Met up with some other couchsurfers and attended a “Festival del Lechón” in Las Piedras

  10. Finished the book I was reading “The Call of the Wild"

This week has been about setting a foundation and settling in. I admit the first few days I was wondering if I will be able to travel for a year. I am doing a lot of research about workaways, housesitting, wwoofing, anything to subsidise costs.

Right now, I am focusing on earning money through photography around Old San Juan or through stock photos. Other than that, I am going to ask around this week for any bar/kitchen work, or physical labour.

The biggest thing for me was getting into a routine. This has helped me start the day and efficiently start the each day. I haven't been partying, rather opting to wake up early in the morning and stretch, workout and go to the beach.

Currently, I am averaging 2 hours of work per day at the hostel and have not spent a cent on food! I will most likely earn a week of free rent for some photography and social media work at the hostel. I am saving myself ~$2000 for free accommodation

I have bulked messaged the Puerto Rican CouchSurfing community, and at this stage it looks like I have rides to much of the Island: Rincon, Arecibo, Fajardo and Vieques, El Yunque, Cascada Gozalandia (a waterfall that I'm going to jump off)

All in all, this week has been enjoyable, as I settle into 'Island life'.

My next post will be a gopro edit of my daily routine.
